Chat Mail Sync

Private WhatsApp archive, in your own mailbox

Turns a WhatsApp "Export chat" file into a searchable, organised archive inside your own email — Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, Fastmail, or any IMAP provider. Nothing leaves your device except the messages you choose to sync, written straight into your own mailbox.

What it does

What it never does

Available for Android (Kotlin/Compose, embedding a Python sync engine). The Windows desktop version ended at 2.1.5.

Getting it

The app is published on the project's releases page, signed by the developer, and also has a store listing.

Android

On a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone — or anywhere else GetApps is installed — the app is on Xiaomi GetApps, and updates arrive through the store like any other app.

Everywhere else, the recommended route is Obtainium, a free open-source installer that watches this repository and tells you when a new version is out. A bare APK never does that.

  1. Install Obtainium (from its own releases page, or from F-Droid).
  2. Tap Add App and paste https://github.com/harshalambani/ChatMailSync.
  3. Install. Every future release arrives as a notification.

If you would rather not use Obtainium, download ChatMailSync-<version>.apk from the releases page and open it. Android will ask you to allow installs from your browser or file manager. You will then need to check for updates yourself.

The app is 64-bit ARM only, and is signed with the developer's own key: updates install cleanly over each other, but an APK from anywhere else will refuse to install over this one. That is deliberate.
